The art of decorating fabric with needle and thread is called embroidery.
It is a luxury and durable form of textiles with a rich history; the earliest examples are found in China and Ancient Greece.
The first machine concept for embroidery was made by Josué Heilamm in 1832. The technology became popular from 1863 when Isaak Gröbli invented the Schiffli, a multi-head industrial machine, in Switzerland. In the 1980s, Wilcom introduced the first embroidery software for both domestic and business clients.
Design and textiles created by machinery flourished since the Industrial Revolution.
Embroidery can be made from a variety of embellishments, such as threads, goldwork, sequins and beads etc. Throughout history embroiderers have pushed the limits of creativity in the art and fashion worlds.
As the next generation of designers we are excited to share our embroidered art with you!
